"A millennia-old mother river, a national edition pavilion safeguarding cultural heritage, and a steaming hot spring engaging in a dialogue between past and present—together they compose the poetic landscape of 'Liuxi Misty Shores'." On August 3, the 2025 list of the "Eight Sights of Yangcheng" was officially unveiled. Among the newly selected landmarks is Conghua's "Liuxi Misty Shores" (including the Liuxi National Forest Park, Conghua Hot Spring Tourism Resort, and the Guangzhou Branch of the National Archives of Publications and Culture), recognized under the theme "Poetic Conghua, a Paradise on Earth". Nestled amidst the mountains and rivers of Lingnan, this enchanting destination is nourished by the thousand-year-old Liuxi River, radiating natural beauty and cultural vitality. It brings together the lush greenery of ancient forests, the cultural brilliance of the Guangzhou Branch of the National Archives of Publications and Culture (Wenqin Hall), and the timeless mist of its storied hot springs—interweaving them into a magnificent scroll that pulses with both historical depth and contemporary energy.

The surging Liuxi River, like a millennia-old lifeline, has nourished the roots of Lingnan civilization. Its refined expression—“Liuxi Misty Shores”—has been named one of the 2025 “Eight Sights of Yangcheng.” This ecological gem on the Tropic of Cancer presents a symphony of nature and culture through four interwoven veins. A vast sea of emerald forests serves as its mountain backbone. The 8,932-hectare Liuxi River National Forest Park forms a vital ecological shield for the Greater Bay Area, where the rare Chinese pangolin has reappeared, offering vivid proof of ecological recovery and embodying the philosophy that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets". Its water source lies in the warm springs that flow beneath the earth—from the hundred-meter waterfall praised by Ming scholar Li Guan as "rolling like the Milky Way", to the 71℃ geothermal bubbles captured by the Ministry of Geology in 1953, now known as Asia's only naturally occurring sodium bicarbonate hot spring. Its cultural vitality is anchored in the Guangzhou Branch of the National Archives of Publications and Culture (Wenqin Hall), which rises beside Phoenix Mountain and the Liuxi River, amid the fragrance of ripening rice fields. With its architectural grace reflecting both Lingnan charm and modern elegance, the pavilion houses over 4 million items—including ancient books, publications, archives, audiovisual records, and stamps—forming a monumental gene bank of Chinese civilization. Its commercial legacy traces back to the ancient trade routes of the Qin and Han dynasties, where hoof prints remain embedded in the stone steps of the Guangyu Ancestral Hall in Qiangu Village. Today, that legacy continues in the red-brick corridors of the Guangdong Hot Spring Hotel, the Tang-style pools of Bishuiwan, the halls of the Conghua International Conference Center, and the Conghua Racecourse of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, which will host major international events starting in 2026. In the blending of past and present, this land is bringing new life to ancient springs and composing a revitalization scroll where history and modernity resonate in harmony.
